Batteries
Household Batteries:
Identifying the type of battery can be tricky. Check the label, shape, or packaging for clues. If you’re unsure, contact a battery retailer for help identifying whether it’s rechargeable and how it should be recycled.
Common Battery Types/Disposal Method
- Alkaline: OK to place in the garbage
- Carbon Zinc: OK to place in the garbage
- Lithium (less than 9 volts): OK to place in the garbage
- Rechargeable batteries: Take rechargeable batteries to a Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation collection site. Common rechargeable batteries include Nickel-Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, Lithium Ion, and Portable (less than 2 lb.) Sealed Lead batteries.
Automotive Batteries:
Minnesota law requires retailers to accept up to five lead-acid batteries per customer at no charge. When buying a new battery, you must return your old one or pay a $10+ surcharge, which is refunded if you bring it back with your receipt within 30 days.

Recycling Schedule
ACE follows a red week and black week recycle schedule. Not sure if you're in the red week or black week service area? Contact us and we'll let you know.
This is How Recycling Works
We provide convenient curbside pickup of full recycling dumpsters for homes, multi-family properties, and businesses. Materials are then processed at recycling facilities, where they’re sorted, cleaned, compacted, and prepared for reuse in new products.

Clean every item
Clean items are crucial to avoid contamination during transportation.

Collection
When your recycling dumpster or cart is full, we’ll collect it directly from your curb, multi-family property, or business.
.avif)
Recycling facility (MRF)
Materials are sorted by type, quality-checked, compressed into bales, and prepared for end markets.
Incorrect Battery Disposal Can Cause Fires
Common household items seem harmless, however, the batteries in them pose risks when disposed into regular garbage or recycling containers because of their highly flammable nature.

Remove the batteries
Check the electronic devices you need to dispose of. If possible, remove the batteries. If not, bring the whole device to the drop off location.
Store batteries in a safe place
Store batteries in non-metallic containers (plastic, cardboard, or glass) that do not conduct electricity if there is a spark.
Find your local drop off
Find a local electronic disposal store, or find a drop off location near you.
